How we verify
We never guess a time. Every time on CatchMass comes from a source you can check, and shows when it was last verified.
Where times come from
- The parish's own website and weekly bulletin, re-checked automatically every week
- Parish staff who have claimed their parish
- Photos of a church's sign sent with “Snap the sign”, then checked
- Visitor reports, which a person reviews before anything changes
The weekly check
Each week our crawler fetches each parish's schedule page and bulletin. It identifies itself, follows each website's robots.txt rules, and waits between requests so it never strains a parish website. If nothing in the schedule section changed, we simply mark the times as checked again.
When something changed, the new schedule is read, partly with the help of AI, and compared with what we show. Clear, confident changes are applied. Anything uncertain or conflicting goes to a person for review before it appears.
What the labels mean
- Verified this week: checked against its source in the last 7 days
- Verified N days ago: checked within the last month
- Amber: not confirmed for more than 30 days
- Call ahead: not confirmed for more than 90 days. We still show the church; please check with the parish before you go.
Bulletins and snapshots
We link to bulletins; we don't republish them. Copies we fetch while checking are private to our reviewers and deleted after 90 days.
Access codes
We never publish door codes or other access codes for adoration chapels, even when a source mentions them. For a locked chapel we say “contact the parish”.
